JonesMXcollection

This site is devoted to the first purpose built 125cc motocross bikes, the bikes that helped ignite the explosion of American motocross in the 1970’s.

The affordability, ease-of-maintenance and wide variety of manufacturers allowed thousands of adrenaline seeking teenagers the opportunity to try what could be considered one of the first extreme sports in America...motocross.

In the early to mid 70’s you could have seen 20 different brands lined up at the start of a race, compared to the 4 or 5 brands remaining today. The fast, light and nimble bikes of the 125 class became so popular that in the mid to late 70’s there would be A, B, C, D, and E classes all with 40-50 racers each at a typical motocross track, every weekend!

Having been fortunate enough to race during what arguably could be the most exciting time in American motocross, some of my fondest memories are not only of the bikes, but the entire motocross experience.

Maybe my 125 collection is a way of keeping those memories alive, but the objective of this website is to share those memories with those who also have the same indelible passion for motocross history and those who would like to learn more about it.

Bike photography: Although my collection began years ago, there was no point in developing a website that featured the bikes unless I was able to utilize professional level photography. My good friend and fellow rider Sandro made that possible. Thanks Sandro.
